Hi every one i'm new to this forum and i just wanted to ask if anyone knew about going to school in another country. I am an American Citizen and i moved to the Philippines to Play Basketball and after my career i decided to stay and finish out my BSRT degree at a college here. i just recently found out that my college here(ILOILO DOCTORS COLLEGE) is not nationally credited in the states.Would anyone know if this will pose any problems for me when i try to get a job there after i graduate?or will i have problems gettin licenced in the U.S. if my degree from this college is not credited? I'm actually very confused about the whole process. If anyone has Info on this please educate me! Thanks!

You're trying to get a job as a what?

If you're a Radiographer, a degree is not yet a requirement for ARRT certification. However, if your radiography program was through this school and the program is not accredited/recognized by the ARRT, then you will not be eligible to take the national ARRT certification exam.

Check here - http://arrt.org/index.html?content=http://www.arrt.org/nd/listOfSchools.ndm/listSchools&iframe=yes
Programs accredited and accepted by the ARRT are listed here.

I suspect, though, that you'll need to contact the ARRT directly. They the best resource for your questions. (651) 687-0048

I had been working in the field for years with a British BSc degree but had to go through a few hoops to work in the States.

I did an abridged program at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida a few Years ago. The course director was Mr. Courney Glenn. You may want to see if the program is still running. It was between three to four months and it allowed you to sit the ARRT(RT) exam.

It was a mix of different nationalities from the Philappines, Jamaica, England, Uganda, Indians and even a few American's that already had Florida licenses but wanted to get the ARRT.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, Carolina. Thinking about what you said, I went back to the ARRT website, and found this -

Question: I was educated outside the U.S. How can I become ARRT-certified?

Answer: Graduates from programs that are not accredited by a mechanism recognized by the ARRT should seek advanced placement in an accredited program. Upon meeting the program’s graduation requirements and receiving the program director’s endorsement, the candidate may apply under regular eligibility requirements. (A special eligibility application process that would have previously accommodated you was discontinued in 1999.) ARRT certification eligibility requires graduation from an educational program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT. Currently accepted accreditation mechanisms include the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), the Joint Review Committee on Education in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT), and the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (JRC-DMS/CAAHEP). Programs housed in degree-granting post-secondary institutions accredited by a regional accreditation agency are also accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT. Effective January 1, 1999, the Conjoint Accreditation Services of the Canadian Medical Association is recognized as an acceptable accreditation mechanism. Effective January 1, 2000, the Australian Institute of Radiography is recognized as an acceptable accreditation mechanism. [/b]

I'm new on here and a UK student due to finish my BSc Diagnostic Radiography course and would appreciate any advise you have as i'm looking to make the move to the US, how did you get on with the Visa process etc?

Do all the states need people to be licenced through ARRT and do you have any idea why they don't recognise the UK qualifications, when the UK will happliy accept those qualified from other nations?

Any advise you can offer is most appreciated Smile
