I have gotten 2 different answers for this question. Can someone help? What is the inferior border of the standard whole brain field? The answers I have are: superior orbital ridge to mastoid and inferior orbital ridge to mastoid. Which is correct?

This all depends upon the situation. For instance, some patients with cerebellar metastasis may have up to C2 include to allow for dose build up. Cord dose would have to be taken into consideration. A collimated line could be drawn or a customized port could be created to block sinuses, pharynx, lens, etc. Some physicians like to exclude the eyebrows as well since wigs can cover the scalp after alopecia sets in. IMRT whole brain is out there but is somewhat controversial. Most often, I've seen inferior to the glabella to mid-superior C1 vertebral body for borders.
