I emailed a friend of mine who's now the program director of the comm. college I went to (PGCC class of '79). Here's what she tells me about the Maryland Comm. College system -

I left Maryland in 1974 after trying out MD University in College Park for
nursing. In 1972, the instructors informed me of a 2-3 yr wait to finish
school at John Hopkins.

When I moved to SC, I went to York Tec and grad. 1979. Now I am in WNC
looking for mobile x-ray work. I finally found my niche' and I am almost
ready for retirement. OMG. Laughing

What a riot! I fell into Radiography at PGCC after high school graduation 1976. After a semester of goofing off, my best friend suggested I try Radiography, which was what she was going into. We graduated together in '79, and she ended up in NM, and I did lots of stuff. Ultrasound for a bit, specials (before they called it "IR"), taught at the Johns, did shift supervisor, ran a mobile TB clinic for the state of FL and then fell into Radiology IT. And it suits me fine.

Where I'd really like to be, though, is eastern NC. I was looking for a job there when I was "found" by my current employer. Man, it's cold here in CT! If you hear of any good Radiology IT positions, give me a shout ~

Here, Radiology IT (information technology) includes anything related to radiology and computer systems - in short, PACS, RIS, digital dictation and speech recognition. Oh, and we're about to move into CPOE - computerized physician order entry with decision support. There are rumors that we'll be taking on a bunch of other systems this year, but no hard info.

Does that help?
