I am an ARRT(RT) with a BS in Diagnostic Imaging from an English University.

I have been offered a position in California but am not 100% sure as to whether I can work in the state with my existing qualifications?

Do I have to go back to school again or are my ARRT quals transferable?

Also what's with the Fluoro license?

I've looked on the CA website but it's about as clear as mud.

Any advice would be great.

Great question! I'm also a foreign trained Radiographer (from Canada, currently registered and working in Ireland) I have not yet taken the ARRT exam, but it has been less than 5 years since I graduated from my Canadian program so I think I'm still eligible to write it.

I also don't know what a Fluoro license is, and I was wondering what the visa process is like, if anyone has any experience with it. Are there many positions available in California, like there are in Canada? I have fallen in love with an American boy, looking to live near Los Angeles. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated!! Very Happy

cheers!

You can find info about licensing in CA on California Dept of Public Health website here:

Thanks for the link HJH but I still have one question: what is CRT stand for?

I've figured out the fluoro permit, and know the AART (got my booklet from my school! Whoo!) But I can't find "CRT" on the AART website, or anywhere else, reliably. The closest I got was Clinical Research Team or Clinical Respiratory Technologist. I find CRT listed with AART cert. on job postings. Is it part of the training in the US?

Thank you!

California Radiologic Technologist. In addition to having your ARRT, California requires that you have a state license.

Good luck

I guess I was looking at an old list of states that require extra licensing.

Thanks, I'll check them out too.

Cheers,
~Kaia

EDIT: I just checked out the website, no extra testing is required. If you have AART documentation you can join. Phew! Smile

As a tip - no such thing as AART. Once upon a time that was the designation our our professional society (now ASRT), but the agency charged with providing and maintaining credentialing for RT's is the ARRT.

right, sorry! I keep mixing them up. That would look pretty terrible on a resume! Smile

Thanks for the correction.
