I am considering admission to WCUI in L.A. I know the school is private and not accredited like a major college. They talk a good game and claim some of their students intern at UCLA & Cedars Sinai. The cost is more than most colleges, however I don't think you really need a 4 year degree to start in Ultrasound. From what I have seen experience and certification by the ARDMS is the basic way to start.

Oh by the way, I have no background in the medical field. But I am a two time cancer survivor who wants to get out of sales and marketing, and into a field that means more than just a paycheck. Question

I don't recommend anyone waste their time and money on a sonographic program that is not JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accredited (www.JRCDMS.org). Not all accreditation are the same, and many will not qualify you to sit for the ARDMS Examinations. Sonography is the most operator dependent diagnostic modality in modern medicine. It requires extensive hand-on clinical education to master. Suggest you check closely the schools that you consider. Unfortunately there are many that charge high fees but do not prepare their graduates well. There have been many class action lawsuits against schools that do not teach their students well.

Good Luck, from one with 30 years of sonographic experience and ARDMS credentials. Terry .

I am so sad and disappointed with West Coast Ultrasound Institute, I wish someone would have warned me on what I was about to get into. Yes, they do talk a good game and at the end everything is nothing but a lie and manipulation, and have no principles all they care about is your money. There great extern sites are crap too, job placement are a list of ultrasound web sites to log onto and when you do get a phone interview the radiologist wont evern give you the time, Why? becasue the school is not CAAHEP, something that they fail to tell you, all they do is fax your resume along with 100 other students. I know Iam not the only one who feels this way, there are many more students that feel they were ripped off.

Looking at the date, I am sure you have made a decision. What did you decide? (just curious after reading post).

I completed my externship and have been unable to find a job for quite some time now. I have noticed the turn-over in the "job placement" department of this school is similar to that of McDonald's, possibly because they neglect to hire people with any experience in job placement. Anyone that has any advice, please help! The school certainly won't. My insanely large school loans and huge monthly payments are not going to take care of themselves.

I am sad that I wasted my money at WCUI Ontario Campus. I will graduate in three weeks and don't have the knowledge or the skills to even go into an externship. The environment is very stressful and pressured they want you to memorize without really knowing why. I do not approve of their method of training its all about passing test and not in knowing what you are doing. I wouldnot recommend this school. Sad
