also, there's a med that is given to stop the paristalsis of the colon. any idea what that med is and dosage info?

papa,
I found an article on Google Scholar
Basically it says: In virtual colonoscopy the use of air (O2) is the most frequently used to expand the colon, as its like doing an air contrast study in xray, and there is no cost to the patient. CO2 is also used and by most reports is better because it produces less discomfort for the patient, and there's a charge added to the exam.
Anti-Spasmodic Agents:
Glucogon has been employed for VC in the USA, although its usefulness has not been substantiated.
Butylscopolamine is used in in Europe for CT and MR colonography, where it has been found cheaper than Glucogon, and more effective than glucogon as a spasmodic agent. However this drug also has its controversy.
You can read the article here, Virtual Colonoscopy: A Practical Guide By Philippe Lefere, Stefaan Gryspeerd but its copyrighted so you'll only be able to read it.
Important pages are 27 to 32.
Are you guys going to do this procedure?
Hope this helps!!
