I'm planning to implement a system wherein a pen-like peripheral is used to determine the pointer position of a projected presentation. That way, I can translate this position to the actual position of the mouse pointer. I'm just wondering, can ultrasound be used to determine the pen's distance from, say, 4 ultrasound markers positioned in the corners of the projected image?

Ultrasound resolution in air is very limited. You'd be better off with IR or RF
