|
I am applying to take classes at a hopital in my home town. I have to research and find out what a typical day of a radiologic technologist consists of. Could some one give me their opinion of what this? Thanks a lot! |

i WOULD SUGGEST SHADOWING AN XRAY TECH IN A LOCAL HOSPITAL. i DO NOT THINK THAT MANAGEMENT WOULD MIND AT ALL. yOU CAN GET A REAL GOOD IDEA OF WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR AREA.
i HAVE WORKED MANY PLACES OVER THE YEARS, IN DIFFERENT MODALITIES, AND IT DIFFERS DEPENDING ON THE JOB ASSIGNED TO YOU THAT DAY OR WEEK. iT COULD BE FLUORO, O.R., OR E.R ROTATION. OR JUST DIAGNOSTIC ON OUTPATIENTS. |

remember that what you do as a radiographer every day will be different depending on what type of work the radiographer does - Hospital or doctor's office? Day shift/evening shift/night shift? Operating room full time, or CT? Pick any of those - call the local hospital and ask.

I can tell you right now how my day goes.
X-ray.
X-ray.
X-ray.
Sit and wait a while.
X-ray.
X-ray.
Lunch.
Sit and wait a couple more hours.
X-ray.
X-ray.
Go home.
Repeat ad nauseum.
Some days will be busier than others, last week I did 20 exams one day before lunch. At my clinic, though, after about 1:30, it tends to slow WAAAAY down. _________________ Radiographers do it in over 400 positions. |

Definitley job shadow. Radiographers can be assigned for general diagnostic exams, fluoroscopic (helping the Radiologist with patient), Surgery (running the C-Arm), IVPs, and other things.
Don't get into this until you have a real good idea of what your getting into. |

I work in a hospital with no transporters and no room attached directly to the ER, and it's a busy ER...
I walk a lot. On the bright side, I lost 30 pounds in the year and a half I've worked there
Typically, I do around 20 exams a shift. That's an average. Some days it's a LOT more (52 in one shift is my record), but others, well, you treasure those days, and you don't speak of them lest you jinx them _________________ How much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck cassettes? |
