Hi fellow Ultrasound techs! I have a question. I have been out of school for just under 2 mths. I luckily found a great job. I am having trouble with my transvaginal scanning technique. I have the hardest time finding ovaries, and I don't feel comfortable scanning into the adnexa. I feel like I am not doing it correctly because I seem to be causing discomfort to my patients. I guess I am just wondering if any of you have any tips or tricks that may help me with my struggle. Maybe I am not inserting the probe deep enough, or I am not angling correctly. I am just not sure. Thank you kindly and I appreciate your response.

Hey there! I'm about to graduate in may, but i've been taking call for a year now. TVs were my hardest, esp to get the ovaries, so don't fret, it will come with time. You do have to get over the adnexa thing though. I always tell me patients I'm about to go to their left or right and so on. They will also let you know if the probe is in too far. For ovaries, I try to turn trans, and angle to each side. If you go around the body/fundus area, the ovaries are usually at that level, unless the uterus is retroverted. I also have had pts push down on the side I'm looking for to (1) move bowel and (2) sometiems the ovaries sit too high and this pushes them down. I hope this helps! |
