i am graduating in may and absolutely hate going to the OR. nothing grosses me out but the attitudes of the docs make it no fun. yeah i know suck it up right? i just find it hard to learn when docs are waiting on me (intern) to drive the c-arm in and please them. they want it soo fast and get angry when they dont have it 2seconds ago. i just know the OR is not for me. anyway just wondering for those of you out there already... do your hospitals have a certain group of techs that do surgery cases or does everyone rotate thru?
yours truely,

Yeah,
I hated OR as well but it is part of your profession and as such you should go through to keep up your skills. There are many positions you can work without an OR but if you have the opportunity you should do it. Besides most of what you see is based on your own attitude. You can't change anyone else but you can change how you percieve yourself and in that others will see a different you.
So yeah, suck it up. |

I rather like surgery. I find that most docs ease up if you can keep up spirits when things aren't going perfect for him(such as you being slower than they want). Can also talk to them like any other human, instead of someone above and beyond yourself.. they seem to like that. |

I always got along with the Docs.. I found the boredom to be the worst. You wait there doing nothing until they are ready for you. But hey, we all like different things which is great. All I was saying is to get all the experience available whether you enjoy hte exams or not. |

I am at the end of my first year and have finally been able to go through a rotation in OR. You just have to remember its better that you do it slower and do it right instead of rushing it and getting yourself off focus. I don't know about you, but when I rush things past a speed I am comfortable with I blank out and get sloppy because of nervousness.
The docs may yell because you aren't fast enough for them, but they will probably yell louder if things get sloppy.
Good luck on your boards. I am happy for you!

I think for the most part it's getting to know them better. I find with time most coworkers open up and accept you. Newbies are treated like that elsewhere in hospitals. I wouldn't give up working the OR. Just give it time and try to be their friends rather than just their coworkers. _________________ Vega Sinclair, Health & Dental Insurance Plans Advisor |
