WE REALLY NEED A MANDATE FOR MAX STUDIES ALLOWED BY LAW!!!

I'm the only Sonographer at a central PA community hopsital (for maybe another year Evil or Very Mad ...) and AM SICK AND TIRED of being overworked!!! We all know quality is inverse to quantity... Last Monday I (myself) did 28 studies.. yes twenty-eight!!! and clocked out only 7 minutes late.. (8hr day)..... It's only a matter of time 'till I miss that malignant tumor and cost somebody their life for the sake of thru-put.

Every day I come in and I'm completely booked thru lunch w/ NO scheduled breaks, PLUS inpatients and ERs, not to mention the ubiquitous "stat" doppler add-on (which is always asymptommatic and neg.)!!! The ONLY good thing is I don't have call or weekends.

I ONCE voiced my opinion to my boss and HE TOOK ME TO H.R. FOR DISIPLINARY ACTION!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SHIT Mad !!!!!!!!!!!! ("manager".... HA! He couldn't even manage a wet fart).

Typical Rad managers were never Sonographers and HAVE NO IDEA of the amount of concentration and effort it can take for a good exam..

SO HELPLESS!!!

How many cases would you see in a typical day if you were not overworked? Do you carry liability insurance and are you held responsible if you miss something on a scan? I am asking because I am interested in going to school for ultrasound and I want to know what I am getting myself into. Smile

Are there any other employment opportunities in the area? US techs are still in high demand.

I was in management once and had to fight daily to avoid that situation in my modalities. It's unfortunate that it occurs; but, it is a business and sometimes the people do get treated like statistics. You could always send an anonymous thought into your hospital or state compliance hotline.

If I were you, I would go over his head. Tell them that if they continue this, you will get injuried and then they will have to pay you to NOT work and train someone new! They hate that! I would look up articles on injuries and things like that. Our teacher showed us some stats and it costs more to pay and injuried sonographer than to cut down on pt load. I am a very strong person and if i was in this predictament, I would not stop no matter who I pissed off!
