|
I'm a senior in high school and I'm trying to decide whether or not I should get into this field. I know everyone's having a hard time finding a job as an RT, and I don't want to get into this if I won't be able to get a job after graduating. I'm thinking about getting into nursing instead, because I know they're in high demand right now and I'd be pretty much guaranteed a job. But, I think I would like this career more. Do you think the job market for RTs will get better, or should I just go for nursing instead? |

Of course no one can make that decision but you but I will throw out my 2 cents.
My wife is a RN and I am an RT so I am able to see both sides of the fence.
There are three very distinct advantages to being a nurse versus an RT. One would be that the nursing shortage in this country, and the world for that matter, is staggering. There are more nursing jobs available than you could apply for in a week. Two, you can work in whatever environment you want to work. There are a hundred sub-specialties of nursing to choose from. Three, you can make as much money as you want to make. Work as many hours as you want.
Although I love taking X-rays, imaging does not have near the demand that there is and will continue to be for decades in nursing.
Congrats on completing High School, it seems you are on the right path.Good luck in whatever you do.
