My facility is wanting to start doing screening CT exams. I'm leery of the legalities of this issue. I know that some places do this already and I'm wondering what the limits of a screening exam are? Meaning what are we as technologists allowed to do without a doctor's order? Contrast, prep, etc.?

The folks who perform CT may be able to help you, but it will ALSO help if you indicate what kind of screening .. cardiac, whole body, what? And in what state is your facility?

The state is Indiana. I didn't say what kind they were because there are more than one and they are varied.

Coronary Calcium Screening (no contrast)
Coronary Angiogram Screening (prep, contrast, withhold daily heart meds, several other medicines)
Virtual Colonoscopy (prep, NPO, administer CO2 rectally)

All this without a doctor's order.
