Well I spent the day yesterday at my Docs office with my wife. The Doc and we are friends so we spoke about this. Pretty much decided to go ahead and proceed with it.

Now to pry some info from Sanford-Brown. I emailed them for info about two weeks ago and so far nothing. And I'm a whopping 10 minutes away. I may just go by.

Plus I need to check on my VA stuff and see what they will cover and how.

A tech I worked with mentioned he worked as a mobile radiographer during school because as he put it, "In MO they let anybody off the street take xrays". Pretty scary, huh? Not only for safety, but lack of regulation really dilutes our position.

As far as the job market, it seemed to be in demand when I started and now that I'm almost done is not so hot. It's hard to predict the future and as in my case you can't go by current status.

If you really have no strong preference and can stomach it, consider nursing.

Yeppers. I checked a few places and there is no real certification required here it seems. Same as the folks who draw your blood interesting enough.

I've dropped the idea of radiography for a few reasons. One being that currently there are what seems to a few million (Ok, small exaggeration there!) in the current class. It's the largest class currently at the school. I'm going Healthcare admin management. Fast growing, good to high pay and the folks hiring are looking for folks with more than just the usually business admin stuff.

Thanks folks.

you dont have to have a 3.0 to get in. it isnt all about your gpa, its all aobut how you do in your interview if you sell yourself enough your good to go, and if you have some experience thats also a plus.

nancy6969: correct, you don't have to have a 3.0 gpa. however, if there are 100 students applying for a position, 50 of which have a gpa above 3.0, you'll have your work cut out for you.

segray: both the radiology and the nursing job markets go through a cycle. one year there'll be tons of radiology jobs, and very few nursing jobs. everybody sees the market for radiology, and enters school for x-ray, and few go into nursing. sure enough, all those techs in 2-3 years graduate and flood the market for the next couple years. then there are no radiology jobs, but since nobody went into nursing (since there was no market for it) places are looking for nurses.

the cycle repeats itself every 2 - 7 years or so. just the nature of the beast. i've been lucky enough to be doing this for almost 10 years now, and haven't been without a job yet, however i'm sure my day is coming too.
