Hello, my name is Nicole.
I am still looking for a career. A little background though. I am from germany and live in VA. I have 2 children, a husband and 2 dogs, (1 is a puppy).
I always wanted to be a nurse. I started school last fall...only took one semester.
Bio 101 just about killed me, but i passed with a C.
I am working in the hospital now as a Nurses aide. I watched an RN put a catheter in a patient and decided that nursing was not for me. I know that Nursing school is going to very very hard....languange would be one thing...
So, i was looking for other careers in the medical field. And RT is one that interests me. Our hospital has a 2 year program where they accept 12 students each year.
But after doing some research, i am wondering about the job market.
I am 32 years old and need to do something.
Anyways...just rambling on here....
Any advice would be appreciated...
Nicole

Hello: I feel that way every day, I am an RT with many experiences under my belt. For your situation, it will be hard either way you look at it. At the home base hospital program sounds great. But who watches the kids? If you did Nursing, which I recommend much better, there are far more areas that you can work in, and avoid the needle; or go past that and learn to conquer your fears. In radiology you indubitable will encounter the same realm. Maybe not a needle at times or someone next to you will , while you are doing a portable x-ray. How about an insertion of a Barium Enema Tip, etc... Or IVP sometimes, you have to admin. contrast in the vein/arm or specials procedure with angio's dealing with femoral arties and some blood. If you are going to study anyway, might as well get deep into it! I do not know what your husband does for a living? If he is in the military and need the $$
then the Nursing. If he has a great paying job, well then choose, don't think radiology is that much easier as studying goes. But as a woman's perspective, learn a skill period!! you never know!!! do it for your kids sake!!!
I hope that helped? I cannot give an exact answer because it is your life! _________________ 631-327-3236 |
