Any coders out there anymore? This area needs some action! What about this digital/pacs/teleradiology stuff? Are we getting paid for technology? _________________ Nursing Links

I just joined the forum and my specialty is coding, auditing and education for radiology providers. I am happy to be of assistance where I can.
I am not sure I understand your question. Are you asking is there is additional reimbursement for use of the technologies? If so, the answer is no. _________________ Stacie L. Buck, RHIA, CCS-P, LHRM, RCC, CIC

Is there a book out there that teaches how to diseect the report? I searched and found some radiology books but it looks like mainly for medical student.
What do I look for basically in the report. I just want to learn and stay in this new job

There really isn't a book that can teach you this, but you may want to give the Medicare Claims Processing Manual Chapter 23 a read about assigning diagbnosis codes.
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/downloads/clm104c23.pdf
Basically you assign a diagnosis code for a definitive diagnosis that is listed in the final impression, if there is nothing definitive you code signs/symptoms.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you require further direction:

Coding and billing are very difficult areas in radiology.
Some exams are very straightforward and some others are very complex.
I agree with stacie, if you are in the job description of coding; then you should definitely get some schooling on it. There are many coding books out there to help but in the end, coding incorrectly can cost your hospital and many other people a lot of money.
Good luck! I'm still learning daily when it comes to this stuff! |
