Hello Everybody!

I'm very new here - just found this website. It seems to be a
hospitable forum with very helpful folks. I hope to be a credit to
the community.

As for my question:

I've just started my first year of a 2 year Radiography program. It's
been challenging, but I'm doing well overall.
I was recently assigned to write a paper on Radiation safety devices.
I've designated film badges, TLD's, and pocket ion chambers as my top three. Now, I've been all over the net, and I can't find an information source
that breaks them down into laymen's terms.

Can anyone recommend a site (or forum area) that would have this
sort of information? I'd certainly appreciate a helping hand or a point
in the right direction.

Thanks in advance! Very Happy

-Patrick

Well, I'd say that film badges, TLD's, and pocket ion chambers are not radiation safety devices. They're radiation MONITORING devices.

Radiation safety devices might be lead aprons, lead glasses, mobile barriers, thyroid shields ... better film screen combinations ... anything that protects or contributes to a reduction in patient dose.

Fair enough. Wink Thanks for the info!

So, I found my resources for film badges and TLDs, but
pocket ion chambers are proving to be rather elusive (pesky).

Any input on pocket ion chambers would be much appreciated.

Tanozzi,

Give this site a try http://www.techlib.com/science/ion.html#PoloniumPen. I found it to be quite informative.
Let me know what you think.

able to complete my assignment, I'll understand the subject as
well.

Can't thank you enough!!!
