Ok, I'm thinking about taking radiology in school but I am asking as far as finding a job when I'm done what should I expect?
Here are my concerns:
When I get out of school how hard is it to find a job in radiology will it be with just education and no experience?
Is it going to be like you can only get apprentice job that are part time and only make 8 bucks an hour or will it be like a real career once i step out of the Classroom?
Is the profession in high demand as most medical jobs are?
What kind of degree should I pursue, certification, associates, ect ect.
what else should i expect starting in this profession? |

there are different trends that different people listen to. i personally think that the market right now is saturated with technologists, however there's always this cycle of not enough tech, then not enough nurses, etc...

oh, no... it's a career even before you finish school. pay rates usually depend on how much expierence you have, but i seriously doubt the $8/hr thing. and again, the job market changes constantly. many people are looking at the job market now and seing that, for example, there's too many techs, but not enough nurses. so everybody goes to nursing school. well, 2 - 4 years down the road when everybody's out of school, there's no nursing jobs because everybody went to nursing school.

in some places, yes. i think in the wash. dc area where i am, there's more demand for weekend and night shifts more than anything else.

ANYTHING THAT IS ACREDITED BY THE ARRT!!! there's a lot of schools around, especially online, that will give you, say, an associates degree in radiology. however, if they're not accredited by the ARRT (www.arrt.org - somebody here has the direct link to where you can find a list of schools) you will not be able to sit for your board exam. that's the most important part. don't think so much about associates vs. bachelors. if you get your associates, you can always go back later and get your bachelors or masters. what's most important is that you can sit for the boards.
what else should i expect starting in this profession?
different people can say different things. what i didn't expect is that the radiology comunity, is actually a very small world. you'll find people that you know from just about everywhere.
hope this helps
