Hello I'm new here and I am finishing my prerequisites at my local city college in California. There are a couple programs that I am going to apply to. I was wondering why some programs require you to take certain classes such as physics or public speaking while others do not? I am also curious about which program will offer me the best education and experience.

THe Associates degree programs that I have chosen are Yuba City College, San Francisco CIty College, and the certificate program at Richmond Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health.
Has anyone gone to any of these programs, if so, I would appreciate any information on how you liked your programs. thanks

Start by googling. Just plug in MRI, you'll get links to Wikipedia, which is a good place to start.

Also helpful is Radiology info.org - here is their link to MRI

The best answer I've heard as to why some programs require more math, A/P, or Physics is that through time the minimum pre-req standards have changed, however, some schools want to be recognized as requiring a higher standard for admittance into their program. Why exactly this matters, I don't know, when the bottom line is "what percentage of your graduates pass the state test?" I'm in Ca. also, and have found the programs here to require a lot more pre-req's then other states. Furthermore, the program directors here are not very encouraging regarding entry into their programs. Some have told me at least a three year wait. I don't know your situation, but I'm looking to leave Ca. for another state where the pre-req's are less, and the waiting list for entry into their program's is much more feasible. Some program directors have told me one yr. or less. Another variable you should keep in mind is that your pre-req classes have a "shelf life," and to complicate this process even further that will vary from program to program. One thing I've heard about the Richmond Kaiser program is that, even though they tell you different, current employee's will get preferred registration. The good news is that their pre-req's aren't too bad. I know a few people who are working there just for the reason of getting priority registration into one of the imaging programs. At the end of this month, when I get my grade in A/P I will be applying for schools outside of Ca. Good luck on your journey. I know how frustrating getting into a school can be, and unfortunately it's just part of the process. I wish there was a computer program, or website that would allow you to enter the pre-req's you have, and then show what programs you are qualified to get into, but that will happen when I graduate I'm sure.
