AP is a projection. From anterior to posterior. Positions are supine, prone, recumbant, erect, etc.

if your having trouble differentiating between projection and position, just remember the projection is the path of the beam and the position how the patient is in relation to the IR. so for example if your doing a PA chest x ray its PA projection because the beam is going through the the posterior then anterior BUT its an AP position because the patients anterior is closer to or in this case touching the IR.
