PostPosted: Tue Aug 12, 2008 11:03 pm    Post subject: Preliminary X-Rays Reply with quote

Its been over 4 days (2 business days) since my x-rays. When I called to find out my results the nurse refused to divulge the results since they were preliminary. Why can't she give the preliminary results if she provides a disclaimer that they are preliminary. Also how long does it take to get "final" results from your experience ?

Thanks

I'm not a tech yet, but in my own experience nurses (and techs I believe) are not allowed to give test results. I had to have a mamogram and ultrasound done because I had a lump in my right breast. It took about a week before I found out the results. Nerve racking to say the least but I'm happy to report everything came out good. I called once while I was waiting and the nurse would not give me the results, she said my doctor would have to call. I became a little nervous when she said that thinking it was bad news, but come to find out it wasn't.

Oh, when I was having the ultrasound done I tried to see if the tech would tell me anything and she said I would have to wait for my doctor to call with the results.

azrad's answer was pretty right on. It would be ghastly to give someone a reading ... even with the disclaimer that it was a 'preliminary' report, only to have to revise that report later. Believe me, telling you the wrong thing is much worse than telling you nothing.

How long it takes depends on many things. Give it a week, contact your physicians office and insist on speaking to your physician.
