I was wondering how many sonographers are having problems with upper extremity pain related to scanning. I have had carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery after scanning for 13 years. The pain is still there and is chronic. I was wondering if I am alone. I am scared that I won't be able to do this much longer. Any suggestions on how to position myself to avoid any more damage? Thanks

I have problems too and have been scanning for 10 years. Mine however is a combination of Lateral Epicondylitis (tennis elbow) caused by stressing my extensor tendon in my wrist forearm. I also get numbness in my pinky and 3rd finger. I suggest take breaks, get closer to the patient, try not to grip so hard, and I think positioning the patient would be very beneficial. If youre like me I didn't take the time to have them rolling back and forth except to get the LLD GB shots. But if youre too busy I suggest maybe look for an outpatient gig. trust me you are not alone when it comes to arm pain.[/quote]
