POSITION DESCRIPTION
Applications/Systems Specialist-PACS
I. Position Summary:
Leads the development and continued roll-out of the Picture Archiving and Communications System throughout the UMass Memorial Health Care system including the Worcester campuses, affiliates and Medical Group locations. Manages all PACS servers, workstations and modalities.
II. Major Responsibilities:
Monitors the ImageCast PACS (Stentor) system. Manages network settings to optimize system functionality and communication capabilities. Administers user rights, storage media and storage capacity.
Provides proactive technical administration, planning, coordination, documentation, and management reporting for the PACS system. Performs quality control and performance monitoring of the PACS system as well as monitor studies and manage patient information. Troubleshoots and resolves performance issues as they arise.
Manages application security, including development and monitoring of policies and procedures. Coordinates and leads any new project related to the PACS/RIS system. Participates in development of software user manuals. Ensures conformance with HIPAA regulations by protecting the confidentiality of information within areas of own position responsibilities by preventing unauthorized release, both verbally and/or in writing.
Coordinates activities related to the PACS System with the organization’s Information Systems Department and the Radiology Department.
All responsibilities are essential job functions.
III. Position Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Over 8 years and up to and including 10 years experience in a PACS environment. A minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience with PACS systems database and storage hardware is essential. The ability to install new software modules interfaces and/or upgrades is also required.
Knowledge of various imaging modalities including but not limited to; CR, DR, CT, MRI, and Digital Mammo is preferred. The ability to read, interpret and utilize Dicom Conformance Standards is essential. An understanding of the functioning and workflow of the radiology/diagnostic imaging department (the origination of diagnostic imaging orders and how they are processed by the department) is essential. An understanding of diagnostic images, related medical terminology, and imaging modalities is required.
