Sometimes I feel like it is only me having a hard time finding the ovaries - I look in the area of the iliacs, etc...are there any other tricks for the transabdominal exam? Thanks for the help! Smile

are you only having trouble with transabdominal approach?
Because you get most of your information transvag. Bowel gas hides a lot. you cannot always see ovaries trans abdominal. especially if the patient has a large body habitis

As the other poster said...transvaginal approach is a better exam for the uterus and ovaries. Some protocols however will include a transabdominal scan along with a transvaginal scan.

For transabdominal pelvic scanning a full bladder can make a huge difference. To locate the ovaries image the uterus in transvers and follow the broad ligaments laterally.
