Hello,
I wanted to verify whether nuclear medicine technologists generally perform venipuncture in the normal course of their duties. I am a NYS resident and was told that they do not have the medical clearance to do so, that a nurse must start the IV for them and then they can do the appropriate "hookup" afterward. Your response is sincerely appreciated! Thanks!

I would like to know the answer to this question as well! I don't mind being around needles and invasive procedures, but I would rather not have to perform them myself.

Most states the tech does the injection of isotope. There are a few states than mandate that a nurse or physician do the injection. New York is one of them. _________________ Gerald
