Hello,
I wanted to verify whether nuclear medicine technologists generally perform venipuncture in the normal course of their duties. I am a NYS resident and was told that they do not have the medical clearance to do so, that a nurse must start the IV for them and then they can do the appropriate "hookup" afterward. Your response is sincerely appreciated! Thanks! |

I would like to know the answer to this question as well! I don't mind being around needles and invasive procedures, but I would rather not have to perform them myself. |

Most states the tech does the injection of isotope. There are a few states than mandate that a nurse or physician do the injection. New York is one of them. _________________ Gerald |

Hi:
We in Texas can perform the intravenous administration of the radiopharmaceuticals, or others substances (saline, adenosin, CCK) in order to get the procedures done. We just need to be registered by the State Health Dept. Also we can start iv, or put media contrast. |
