Try to avoid getting grilled the next time you go in for this medical test.
Functional MRI scans show differences between the brains of people who are lying and people who are telling the truth. Researchers at Temple University in Philadelphia tested ten volunteers, asking six to shoot a toy gun and then lie and say they didn't do it. The researchers found a total of seven areas of activity in the brains in the group that lied, but only four in the ones who told the truth.
There was no attempt made to deceive the MRI, as it has been noted that some people can deceive a polygraph.
