MRI Experiences

This message is for anyone who has had experiences with children and MRI, or an MRI procedure in general. I am conducting a research project in which I am trying to develop some sort of tool (book, video, etc.) that a child patient can take advantage of before going into an actual MRI procedure. This product will be used to clarify any misunderstood concepts about what the patient is about to experience. If anyone has had any MRI experience whatsoever, has seen a child's reaction or has watched a child go through an MRI procedure, worked with a child during an MRI procedure, has a child who has had an MRI before, etc., please share with me your story. I would like to know information on how the child was relaxed before the procedure, the worries of the child patient, how the child reacted after the procedure, how he/she reacted during the procedure, and so on. This information will greatly aid me in my study. Also, anyone who has gone through an MRI procedure is welcome to tell me how they felt, thought, or any of the above described. Try going to a Childern's hospital to observe for the Day. Working with any patient will have it's challenges. Kids are sometimes easier due to the fact they have not gone through anything like this before. It comes down to the tech, nurse and family member. Explanation is always the key. Tell any patient what they are going to go through before they do and this will eliminate any suprises. Have someone sit with the child. If all else fails the Childrens hospital will have a sedation protocol that will help them through the test. Children under 6 should be done at a Childrens hospital. They are most prepared for any problems and your Rads are used to Pediactric pathology.
