On-the-job training works if you are already a certified Radiation Therapist (according to the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists).
Formal education programs require: (again, from the AAMD)
1) Most programs require the applicant to be a registered radiation therapist or an individual with a baccalaureate degree with physical science pre-requisites.
2) The applicant will be required to interview with an admissions committee and is selected on a competitive basis
3) Most programs require that a previous observation be completed in medical dosimetry to ensure the applicant knows what the profession is and if they truly want to do this.
On the JRCERT website, searching for accredited medical dosimetry programs, there are no programs in California. 1 ea in AR, FL, GA, IL, MD, 2 in NC, etc.
