Make them bend their knees, thats how you see exactly where the SP is Wink .

The iliac crest is not reliable! If you ask diffrent radiographers, your going to get lots of diffrent answers. If you find something that works.....stick with it! I was the worlds worst KUB x-ray student! I found something that works for me, and that's what I go by. You will learn this as time goes on. Good luck!

Palpate the area with tact and warning to your patient and you will never miss again!

Are you clipping all of the PS, or just the lower part? Are you using digital or film? Increasing your SID beyond 40 inches helps get more into the image with digital. I know what you mean and you are correct that the Iliac Crest is NOT always reliable. There are other "cheater" tips on KUBS as well...

Clipping the symphysis pubis is the easiest mistake to make when taking a KUB Abd. I either have them bend their knees quick for me or just go right in and palpate the iliac crest (let them know what you're doing first).

My Guest here gave the same answer I was going to give. Just palpate that SP!

It's an official bony landmark!

One facility I worked in had the dentent set at 44" instead of 40" and that worked real well.
