Any position of the knee can demonstrate fracture, depending on the fracture site.

When taking trauma pictures, you want to try to get two images 90 degrees from each other. AP and Lateral is preferred, but not always possible.
You can do an AP knee, and then keeping leg is the AP position, you can do a shoot-through lateral (placing a cassette between the patients knees and aiming the tube at the lateral side of the knee). This will limit movement of the knee. Check out your textbook for all the positioning details. |
