PostPosted: Fri Oct 17, 2008 6:59 pm    Post subject: Job Market for Rad Techs? Reply with quote

Hey gang, I was recently notified that my job is going away. I've researched a bit for a new career and radiology tech looks promising. My question is, I've read some posts on this forum that say the job market is not so good for graduates. Would someone please stop me from making a bad decision with my future? Is the job market sound or should I study elsewhere? Thanks in advance for any advice.

the market has become more competative, not flooded. I think there is always room for an excellent technologist. If you decide to go to school, make sure to take advantage of every opportunity. many times you end up getting a job where you trained, at least in the beginning. if you are not in the medical field already, make sure that is where you want to be. technologist are involved in a lot of direct patient care that some people find uncomfortable. also, most people these days cross train into other modalities. being multimodality trained increases your employability.

Hi thanks for the reply. You know, I think I'm going to go the accounting route as I already have an Associate of arts degree and the classes I've already taken will fill requirements in the Bachelor of Accounting program.

When I was searcing hospital websites for Rad Tech jobs, I didn't find many; what I did find was a lot of accounting openings LOL. So, I think this is the best option for me. Plus, to be honest, I was considering Rad Tech as I'm not much for blood and guts, and this seemed to be the least invasive of the options. Of course, I may be wrong. Thanks again for the response.
