by "core" i just meant in the field somewhere. one thing i've learned about radiology is that it's a very small world. since i've graduated from school, i've worked at like 8 or 9 places, and i've always known someone from somewhere else.
example: job 1 - graduated from school, this was my first year clinical site and in the city. i knew everybody. job 2 - took agency job in the boondocks of maryland. the night shift CT tech used to be my clinical instructer. job 3 - manager used to work with my wife at a different hospital. job 4 - supervisor from job 3 became co-worker here. job 5 - returned to job 1, knew everybody. still. job 6 (PRN) - lead technologist for X-ray was the "party girl" in x-ray school, 2 other "party girls" worked in either mammo or main, director of radiology was my department manager for job 1. job 7 - (took me a while to find this one) one of the scheduling people is married to one of the CT technologists at job 6. job 8 - tech from job 1 used to work here, and everybody knows him and asks about him. job 9 - (will start here in july) the lead technologist for my second year clinical site is the new manager
it's a small world, after all...........

the way i did my registry....
borderline C student throughout school. i really wasn't that much of a test taker, or a really good student (always falling asleep in class). when i graduated, i passed by maybe 2 points, and the instructors thought for sure i wouldn't pass the registry. i already had a job in DC, so the regulations on the boards hadn't gotten as strict as they are now, so i took a year off from school, and just worked. i did evening shift, and some weekends, and just really enjoied the radiology field. DC started to crack down on licences and stuff, so i scheduled my boards. about 2 weeks before the exam, i opened one of those study books (can't even remember which one) and never touched it again. the night before, i got really, really drunk. took the boards at 7 am the next morning with a hangover, and got a 92.
basically, my advice is to relax. it's just a test. it's designed to be one of those "either you know it, or you don't" kind of things. take a deep breath, don't be cocky, be confident. you know this stuff already. that's just a fact. all you have to do is put the right answers together.
good luck to all of you taking the boards!!

Oops! I thought the Core was another forum. I know there is another one floating around, but I don't know what it's called anymore!
I got my ARRT paperwork in the mail so I am officially an R.T.(R) now! Woohoo!! Now I just need to get my self-query back and I can send in for my state license. |
