|
I am going to a 2-year radiography school that will probably cost me $45,000. I've looked around and the cost for other 2-year schools are at most $12,000, most being way less than that, around $3000-$6000. What the heck is wrong with that? Can they do that? I'm sure they can, but that just seems wrong. Is there any way to get them to lower tuition? (thinking way out the box on that one) |

|
Hello Everyone:
I'm new to this site and since I've been browsing I've already commented on a couple of posts. It seems I'm not the only one having a very hard time trying to make the transition from RT to MRI/CT Tech, not to mention finding a job as an RT(R) in Michigan. I would like to become registered in MRI/CT before Jan 2011, if that's possible. So, if anyone has any info they can give me on becoming trained as a MRI/CT Tech or on a good training program/school for MRI/CT Techs I would be grateful. I'm open to all suggestions (like so many others in my field).
Thanks for listening,

down here in south florida i have found many places that offer courses in ct and mri. they are the local schools that offer general radiography programs and other places that have courses for ceu's. so it might be similar where you live, check out the local radiology programs and see if they offer anything like that, or check out places that have classes for ceu's also just ask around. thats how i found the mri program i attend now, i just asked the mri tech from my last clinical site when i was in x ray school where he learned mri at. good luck. |

Hi 954heat:
We're not so lucky to have MRI & CT schools here in MI, everything is out of state. I've talked to techs from my rad program and they were trained on the job, which according to them cross-training no longer exists. We had 2 hospital based MRI/CT program, but 1 closed and trying to get in the other is nearly impossible, unless you know someone from the inside. I've called a few online ceu programs, but they don't sign off on the required # of ARRT comps during the clinical studies. They suggest you find a clinical site on your own. No luck thus far because of the insurance liability.
How do you like the program your in now, would you recommend it? Can you give me more info on the school your going to (cost, name/number, location, clinical studies, start/end time, etc) I have family in different parts of FL I could stay with if needed.
Thanks for your suggestions,

i do like the program im in now, actually next thursday will be my last day! and if your thinking about moving to the south florida area, all the community colleges offer advanced certificates in ct, mri, etc. miami-dade college, broward college, and palm beach community college. and there are other smaller private schools that also offer the same. i myself was going to attend pbcc last december but only changed my mind becasue the program im in now started in october so i was able to start and finish sooner, its one of the smaller private schools, but it was about the same cost, they provided me with a clinical site, my teacher is very good, and ill be taking the registry in a few more months so im happy with my decision. but i would recommend any of the programs really there all about 3k for mri and i think 2k for ct being that its shorter. the mri programs are usually about 6 months and the ct 3-4 they provide you will clinical sites and i know people that have attended all of them and i hear they are all quality programs. |

954heat:
Yes, that's exactly what I need a smaller private school, what was the name of yours? Like you, I'm hoping to find a program I can start A.S.A.P.
I need to take the registry before Jan 1, 2011.
Thanks again

oh right to avoid taking the registry every 10 years, you may just barely make it if your lucky because its already 3/10. also, bad news the school im going to now, there not taking any new students for awhile, like i said its a smaller private school owned by a few people and they're taking some time off for awhile for personal reasons, so thats probably not an option for you. but i think the mri program at miami-dade college starts in the summer, not sure about when the others start but u can check there websites, pbcc.edu broward.edu and im not sure what miami dade colleges website is but you can just google it. good luck. oh also some hospitals here have mri and ct programs. west boca hospital has a ct program i know, im not sure if they have and mri one though. i know jackson memorial in miami used to have an mri program but i dont know if its still going on. i think someone that used to post here said they did a ct program at nsu, nova southeastern, which is also in broward, so you should have a lot of options if you plan on moving here, i think you should be able to find something easily, but of course look into everything before you move, websites, call and find out info, etc. good luck. |
