I'm just wondering, because I'm having nothing but road blocks when I go to apply at a school. Most schools are saying "one to four years." So, my question is "what schools are taking students right away?" Or, is everyone having the same problem as me, and just waiting it out? I would love to hear from students that are having a hard time getting into the program and what have you found out to help diminish the wait? |

Most programs have a pretty good waiting list. Get your prereq's out of the way while you wait and try volunteering in the xray dept. at your local hospital. Many xray programs will give you priority over others if you are volunteering in order to learn more about your chosen profession. Several of our local CC students have found this volunteering to be an interesting experience and it helps to solidify their decision. |

I was on the waiting list for 2 1/2 years. During my wait, I finished my AA degree and became certified in Phlebotomy and EKG. The wait went pretty quick actually...now I'm half way through the RT program.
Get on a list. The time will go by whether you're on it or not, and in 1-4 years, you'll kick yourself if you didn't get on it and others that did are starting the program. _________________ <JESUS>< |

My program is pretty tough to get into. They had about 400 applicants for 20 slots, and 9 of those were bought by hospitals. So in reality only 11 were accepted out of the 400. I took all my pre-req's first. My program won't even look at you if you don't have all the non radiology courses done. They admit students on a point system, and the students with the highest points are accepted. These points are bases on your grades in previous classes. If you got an A, you got 3 points, a B, 2 points, etc.
Another way to get into our program is through hospital sponsorship. The local hospitals have contracts with the school to sponsor a certain amount of students. These people are employees of the hospital and have to go through an interview process...similar to applying for a job. Those selected by the hospital get into the rad program no matter if they have pre-reqs done. The hospital pays for them to go to school in return for a commitment for a certain amount of time after graduation. Check with the hospitals and see if they offer something like this.
Good luck! |
