|
Hi ,
I am planning to join Ultrasound Program in June 2007 and would like to know if an ultrasound tech has to stand for long hours as I saw on a couple of websites that they have to stand for 80% of the time. The reason I am asking is because my hip hurts if I stand for too long. So your replies would help me decide if I should go for this course at all. Thanks in advance!

Our chief ultrasonographer has the same problem, and she uses a special high chair designed to reduces stress to the hip and back area. Most or all of the modailites in radiology require standing and walking during a busy work day.
Wishing you the best in your future. _________________ CTDave

How about the ob/gyn sonographer? do THEY have to stand as well cos the ones I have been to were sitting? Thank you so much for your answers. Its making me rethink my decision cos in the first place I had got accepted for the nursing program and I turned it down cos it requires a lot of standing and walking. Thats why I thought of switching to Ultrasound. Now I dont know. Pls reply. |

The reality of any of the diagnostic imaging modalities is that we are all on our feet most of the time. Some sit on occasion, some spend most of their time walking .. but I spent time in US and most of the sonographers I know will tell you that they stand for long periods, regardless of what type of US they are performing.
Good luck |
