See if you can buy an old book by Dorothy Burns called Radiographic Imaging. The ISBN is 0-7216-3246-7

This book is one of my favorites to use for teaching contrast and density. It is very straight forward and should provide the basics you need.

If you have specific questions, post them and I will see if I can clarify.
