48 year old who has not worked in x-ray since 1982. Kept up my license when all you had to do was pay dues. I was working in other field and had small children and did not keep up with my continuing education. What a mistake that was. I thought I would never want to go back into xray but now children are grown and I was checking into what I had to do. Called AART and was told I could take the exam and I had 3 chances to pass. After June 2006 I would have to go to school so if I ever want to work in x-ray again I better try to pass exam because I dont want to go to school again. I graduated and got my RT in 1977. After reading about how hard the exam is I am so nervous and even question if I should try this. A lot has changed since 1977. Does anyone know anyone who has taken the exam after so many years and I still have my x-ray books (outdated) can anyone suggest the best way for me to pass this exam. What books or website is best. This is kinda embarrassing but I did find a site where you could take a practice test and made a 35 on the test so I need a lot of help!!!!!!!

I see I am not the only one in a panic. I had to sit out awile for medical reasons. The board denied request for extention of ce probation cycle, even with the medical documentation provided to them. I spoke with my teacher from 1987 graduate, and he said to get the Radiologic Exam Reveiw:isbn # is: like a s.s.# for this book=0071387684and on Nov. 25th the revised edition will be out and that #=0071441662. I had a heck of a time getting this little piece of info. Also, he suggested the book Correctec and said not to search all over town for our revised books from school, and to concentrate on the R.Exam Review, it suppies Answers and explanations. In the meantime, We will keep a positive approach to our situation, and definitely exchange all info. we find as we go!!Reply and Good Luck on our search......

Sorry I have not gotten back to you. I called ARRT and asked them for the best review material and they told me they could not endorse any info but I could call ASRT and I did. They sent me a list of books and web resources and I was just looking on amazon and barnes and noble to see about ordering these. They list 14 books and I wish I knew which was the best. This sucks, I wish there was a fine for not keeping up your CE and require you make up all CE for the years missed instead of taking the exam again. Here is a list of the books from ASRT:

Practical Radiation Protection and Applied Radiobiology, Dowd, Tilson, WB Saunders, ISBN 0721675239 (2nd Edition 1999)

Radiation Protection: Essentials of Medical Imaging Series, Bushong, McGraw Hill, ISBN 0070120137 (1st Edition 1998)

If anyone knows which of these books has the best info please let us know. I have not ordered any books yet and I need to find out soon which books are the most helpful.

I too am in the same boat. I have to re-take the ARRT exam after about 10 years of being out of the field. Has anyone found a good website or book to study from yet? www.corectec.com looks pretty good. Has anyone had any luck with this website or book?
