I know the consensus is to try and obtain your schooling through a CAAHEP accredited school. Unfortunately, there are NONE near me at all. No chance of relocating, as my husband is in the military so this is where we must be! I found a non accredited school that is a couple years old, and is actively seeking accreditation. The director is a former director of an accredited ultrasound program. Everyone that completes this program is eligible to sit for the registry immediately following graduation because to get into the program you must have a 2 year allied health degree or a BA/BS. Their pass rate for the registry is 94%. The program is 18 months long, 32 hours of clinicals every week. The classes are online (not typical online classes. This is live instruction, so you are able to ask questions, etc etc) and at the college through "tele-course". So, what do you all think? Besides no accreditation, they sound great to me. I just wonder if I will run into a lot of roadblocks if I go this route. ANY opinions, advice would be so greatly appreciated! |

Well. like CT dave or Hjh would say this isnt a very resourceful forum. this comes from anonymous people. i my self an considering a job in this field and believe direct instruction is better than online instruction. no matter what, Physical help is much better to comprehend than a Text based version of help. the clinical hours sounds like a great place for experience. _________________ Here to Learn. to see if i could make this my career. is this what i should do for the rest of my life? not in it for the money. im in it to lean new things. |

It is not text based online instruction, it is a live video feed. He lectures and demonstrates on camera, and we ask all the questions we want live. I do agree that IN PERSON instruction is best, but at this point I don't have many other choices.
And yes- I have noticed surfing through this forum that there aren't many helpful responses. |

Hey there! I too am a military wife. I am about to graduate in may with my b.s. in ultrasound. However, my husband lives in NC and I live in GA. Sometimes you have to scarfice. I would not recommend going to this school. If they never get accredited, you're up creek. And with ultrasound, I can tell you, online will be so hard. Yes you can ask questions, but you won't have scanning labs. And sure, clinic is great, but you may get a site (as we have a few) that doesn't let you scan much or don't have the time to help you enhance your scanning technique. As much as i hate to say it, i would either move or find a new career. A friend of mine just got into a program on base that is 6 months for dental assistant. Just if you're looking to make money. I hope this helps! |
