Hello,
Does anyone have any advice for someone deciding between pursuing general sonography or cardiac sonography? What are the pros and cons of each field?

 Both modalities are very interesting, I would say it just depends on what interests you. Cardiac would, at times, put you in the operating room - depending on the facility where you are employed. To me, THAT is very exciting. General, to me, is a bit monotonous. Again, this is ONLY my opinion.
Are you currently training in one of these areas? If so, which one?
Suggestion: Why not try both?
I am the Director of Admission for an online academy, where we offer General,Echo, and Vascular sonography. I would be happy to discuss you opportunities with you.

Can you tell me ... is the Academy of Ultrasound accredited by anyone? CAAHEP (which is the only accrediting agency recognized by the The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)?

Heather, you stole my question, lol. I would think any Heathcare degree, especially when you are dealing with people, would be a bit tough learning on-line.  |

If the "Academy of Ultrasound" is not listed by CAAHEP (www.CAAHEP.org) then it is not accredited. As far as being accredited by "anyone", I would not go for any school that just has accreditation by "anyone". If it isn't JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accredited, then it is probably a waste of your time and money. There is the CCI CAAHEP accreditation, but it is mainly for invasive angiography, and is the "minor league" as far as Echocardiography accreditation, IMHO. Go for the Gold... JRC-DMS/CAAHEP accreditation and ARDMS credentials.
