It is my understanding that a gallium scan will identify areas of inflammation, e.g. sarcoid activity or infection. How is a radiologist able to determine if the "hot spot" on the scan is either inflammation such as sarcoid activity, or infection, or a tumor. Or does the radiologist simply confirm that inflammation or infection is present, and some form of further investigation would have to be done to determine what it is.

Your questions have to do with how a Radiologist clinically evaluates an image.
Anything said here, even from experienced Technologists, would be guess-work. You're better off taking your questions about diagnosis to a forum frequented by Radiologists. try AuntMinnie.com
