I'm currently a first year student persuing a bachelors degree at Emory University in Atlanta..I am feeling discouraged because many RT's have been tormenting me about there not being enough jobs, and "what do i want a bachelors for" Im just so burnt out. My tuition is insane..Im starting to think..is it really work it? My friend is trying to get me to go into dental hygiene where they start at 30.00/hr What should I do??!!!
Also..As the seniors have just graduated and came back complaing of a lack of jobs..should i be worried..many of us are!! |

Sorry to hear about your frustration. I recently graduated and passed my registry - good times, but no job ... I'm in MI and that's the norm, up here, so I'm setting my sights on Dallas. Emory is a great school (I'm a "peach", myself, so I know these things)- and, honestly, your BS will help you on down the road. Stay in motion and don't forget that you're right where you are supposed to be. The Dept of Labor says that there should be a 15% increase in RT jobs from 2006-2016 ... definitely think about specializing, though. This is just a stepping stone; enjoy the journey and try not to worry too much - God knows your talents and has a special place just for you ... |

I am in the DFW area and am hearing about the lack of jobs as well. A few of the new grads from my school have said they are wrking 2 and 3 prn positions just to make ends meet because they cant find a full time job.I have been told that there is a bill called CARES that is being considered that will help ensure that rad techs must have a degree, right now a DR. can train his MA to do x-rays and that is really cutting into the job market. Also I am wondering , once I have my ARRT where do I get more specialized training? I start school in Aug. so I really have just begun |

I am a 1st year radiography student in the Nashville area and have heard the same thing, which is kinda scary, but I am going to get crossed trained to better my chances of employment when this program is up. You may not get where you want, but I am sure you will find a job once you are done, it just might take some time. Good luck to you! |
