I'm thrilled to hear about ummmmm 'more mature' students - I think you guys are terrific!
IN GENERAL, older students are better motivated, less focused on grades and more focused on mastering the material.
GOOD LUCK to all of you

I have been an optometric tech for 17 years so this is a big change. do you worry about the market being flooded? I have seen alot of blogs on this and its a little scarey to me. Well I just wanted ya to know that there are alot of us in this age range going back to school. Good Luck |
Ya!!!! for the older....ooops wiser growd!! As far as the market being flooded, my hope is that by the time we graduate it will swing back the other way. With that said, here in the Phoenix area I'm still seeing a lot of job postings. So we'll see. |

I started this thread over a year ago after finishing my first semester. I'm now in my 6th and final semester and applied for graduation today. Time sure does fly. _________________ <JESUS>< |

And so the thread comes to an end. Yesterday was my last clinical day, today was my last day of class, and I take the registry next Friday.

congradulations! welcome to the x-ray club
... first rule of x-ray club, don't talk about x-ray club....
sorry, long night, and i've got an even longer night ahead of me tonight..
little tip for the boards... relax. relax. relax. i've known too many techs who get so frazzled by "oh god, these are the boards, i don't know if i can do this, " etc. etc.
it's just a test, no more, no less. you've spent your time in school preparing for this, just let it all out.
after i graduated from x-ray school, i was working at a place that gave me a year after graduation before they required me to be board certifyied. i took that year and just worked. no school. no requirements. no books or teachers. 3 weeks before i took my boards, i opened up one of my old books for a couple days, then put it down. the night before my boards, i got drunk off 3/4 of a bottle of scotch, and took the boards the next morning at 7:00 am with a hangover. i scored a 92. i was relaxed.
on the other hand, there was this one girl in my class who was an A student throughout school. studied night and day for the boards. panicked the morning of, and got a 75. granted, that's passing, but she could have done so much better if she had just relaxed.
good luck to ya, welcome to the radiology field, and relax.

p.s. - just think, now all you have to wory about is CE credits _________________

Is there any advantage to scoring a 92 instead of a 75? Employers don't know what you scored, only that you passed. Am I wrong? |

Nope, you're not wrong. Employers do not care 1) where you went to school or 2) what you scored on the exam. They care that you passed the exam and earned your certification and that you maintain it (registration).
