I was going to buy an ultrasound machine this year and try and go to some general practioners offices and do echo's in their office. I heard that they are changing the billing in medicare so that the billing physician has to own the equipment and have a full time tech on staff in order to bill. Is this true and where can I find the information on it at? Also is there a way around it. From Houston TX

I am a sonographer in Houston also and is working towards incoporating general and vascular ultrasounds into physician offices. I have been doing research and have not heard of any changes so far in the way the billing is done. I would also like to know if this changes because I planned to start by April or May of this year. If I hear anything I will be sure to keep you posted.
