There will always be another individual.

Some people are unhappy, miserable, sour. They take their unhappiness with their lives out on everyone around them and there's nothing you can do to change that. So what will you do with that? Or about the Radiologist that treats you like dirt in front of the patient or the nurse who refuses to assist or the parent who screams at you for 'hurting' their child.

While I understand that, as adult learners, you feel like you already have experience with dealing with people who treat you badly - what you don't have is experience in healthcare. And it IS different.

As I said earlier - Everyone is a good example of something. This is not wasted time - ASK YOUSELF WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM HER. Then do your best to learn it and move on. Sunfish, you already have tons of experience as a patient to help you be a more caring radiographer - this RT is now modeling for you how to NOT be a student mentor.

Doesn't mean you have to like it - just survive it. And learn the lesson.

Good luck,
hjh, RT

Sunfish,

Just hang in there. I'm graduating in a month and I worked with "that" tech my second semester, fourth semester, and again at the hospital I'm at right now. I know its tough to dread going to clinic but its worth it in the end.

You have done all you can with this person by trying to do better and talking to her about the problem. She is not going to change her attitude and I'm sure you know that. When working with these techs, I have learned to zip my lips and just nod my head when they start to act crazy. Its true as a student you don't seem to have the right to professionally and politely stand up for yourself in the same way that you would as an employee. Try not to let her get to you.
