I am currently waiting to be notified if I can start the RAD program in Michigan for August. I have taken all the pre reqs and an Xray class and found them interesting. Only problem is I am not good in Math. Will this be a huge problem during the course? |

It depends on the instructor.
In my class, I teach the students a different method of solving exposure problems. I divide the solution into three steps.
First, determine what the changes will have on density (darkness of the image).
Second, use a simple proportion to find the density change factor.
Third, apply that factor to one of the other exposure factors to obtain the final result.
Using this method, my students are able to solve all exposure problems without having to memorize any formulas.
I would think that basic algebra skill is all that will be required for most instructors.

Thank You very much for your response. I am not bad with the basics of Algebra, so hopefully I will do fine. You said 'your class,' where do you teach? |

How do you get into the program at the hospital? Is it through your school program or do you apply for it directly with the hospital? I am currently in the waiting list at Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn. |

IMO the math itself isn't all that difficult- and I always struggled with math. But keeping track of all the formulas and remembering which ones to use was hard. (for me) Also there is a lot of physics (more than I anticipated) and it seems as though left brain folks that are mathmatically inclined also have a knack for physics.
On the bright side, I have always held a theory that there are algebra people and geometry people. IF you liked one you hate the other. Not that I loved geometry, but it made more sense to me as I had a visual. Your math and physics of course is more in the geometry realm w/ little basic alegbra. If you got through your college Algebra I, you'll be fine.
Good Luck- but while you're early in the game you might consider u/s and/or echo instead. Huge demand. |

Our program is a hospital based certificate program.
Disadvantage: certificate rather than degree.
Advantage: very low cost versus a degree program.
Ten new students start this week.
Applications are accepted from August through December 31 of each year for the following July class.
Open to anyone. |

Thank You Paddy & Segray for your response.
I have looked at the link you have posted (Paddy) and I am considering applying for this program. I seem to have all the requirements to get into the program, but I dont understand what it means by "the program does not accept transferring students." I am an international student, from Windsor, Canada, trying to find something to take while I am currently on the waiting list. I think this would help me greatly. I think I will definately make an appointment to meet with someone. |

The program does not accept transferring students from other radiography programs. This does not apply to you.
We have had many students from our northern neighbor in the past.
I would give extra credit to students that brought me peameal bacon
Good luck. |
