Could someone please help me to properly code this: Huey needle advanced into a right peripsoas abscess w/aspiration of pus....French pigtail cath passed over and placed w/in abscess cavity. 20cc's of fluid was removed.

Would 75989 and 49061 be the correct CPT for this study? Do you feel 567.2 is the correct dx?

Thank you for the help in advance.

Hi, from my research I find that the peripsoas is a muscle in the retroperitoneal region and probably should be coded as you stated. Other possiblities might lie a unlisted procedure code from the musculoskeletal region, but I don't seem to see any that could apply. Be aware that in 3 days the diagnosis code would be reported with the new code 567.22.
