I have a MedRad Stellant D injector, but I didn't buy a contrast warmer. I did researched and found pro and cons to having a warmer. I may want to put a warmer in my budget for 2006, but I need input to advantages, disadvantages vs. cost. Comments please.

warmed contrast reduces the risk of iv contrast reactions and infiltrations. a contrast warmer pays for itself in the long run. the only downfall is that they are bulky and take up counterspace.

I am wondering if you have to document the temperature of contrast warmers on a daily basis and if you should maintain the contrast warmer at the temperature shown on the package insert? Any comments or suggestions regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

We document temps daily because of JCAHO regulation. We keep it between 95-100 degrees. Contrast should be in the warmer no more than 24 hours and labeled with date/time, amount and type of contrast.
