Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice. I am thinking of applying to an associates degree program in either Ultrasound or Radiology.

My problem: I have a certain degree of color blindness. I can see color of course, but I cannot see as broad of a spectrum as many others can. It's not uncommon for men to have this (about 10% of the population), but would this harm my ability to perform in these health fields?

Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

phillipus_rex,

I work with 4 registered radiology technologists and 2 radiologists (all male), who are color blind. Being color blind has not hindered them in their duties as technologists, or radiologists.

Good luck in finding a good radiology or ultrasound program. Wink

WOO HOO!

That's great news! Thanks very much.

I currently live in Alabama and I have a friend who attended Wallace State Community College and he speaks favorably of it. It's pretty well known throughout the state for it's allied health programs. So I will probably apply there.

I have a bachelors degree already, but it is not in a health related field and I will have some prerequisites I will need to fulfill, however, this was my main concern.

Thanks again!

I too am colorblind so its nice to know that this wont hinder me in my new profession. Blue/Green here...its funny when you tell people your colorblind the first thing they want to do is give you a test (whats the color of my shirt?) or they think we cant see ANY color at all.
