I am real nervous to comp out on my chest xray. I still get rotation on my lateral views and the techs i work wit say its okay but i want to be right on the money and have no rotation can anyone give me tips on how to not have roation on my laterals views. |

line up the shoulders with the hips. if your shoulders are straight on, and they line up with the hips, that should eliminate the rotation.

Remember though...it won't be possible to get every patient lateral every time. Everyone is built differently, so some people just won't line up perfectly.
I had a patient once for a CXR and saw my lateral view before the PA. She was rotated like you would not believe and there was no way I over rotated her THAT much. When I saw her PA view, she had severe scolosis, so it would have been impossible to get perfectly lateral. |

On lateral CXR's i always put my left hand on the patients upper back, doing this i can gauge rotation using the scapular borders. Maybe its an experience thing, but using the relationship of one scapula to the other i could tell whether there was any significant rotation or not. |
